CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF BILINGUAL EDUCATION

The region of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island is celebrating 50 years of bilingual education. To celebrate, MABE produced a short three-episode docuseries exploring the history of Bilingual education in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. MABE researched the history in each state and interviewed important partners that helped shape what Dual Language Bilingual Education looks like now, and who are helping it grow today.

Learn from four pioneers of bilingual education in Massachusetts as they explore how the crisis response cycle can be broken by elevating bilingualism, how bilingualism is a right and a gift, how to embrace the role of advocacy, and highlighting portraits of success. This look back at how critical consciousness has shaped our past will help guide our future.

Explore the history of bilingual education in Connecticut to prove that "juntos podemos." Together we can put bilingual education on the map, we can mobilize civil rights, we can foster new educators, and we can collaborate for a bilingual future. Watch for a special message from Secretary of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona, who reminds us that bilingualism and biculturalism are superpowers.

To celebrate 50 years of bilingual education in the region, MABE will explore the history of bilingual education in Rhode Island to remind us of the critical role that communities have in advocating for bilingual education. The transformative power of advocacy allowed RI to create visions for change and empower ALL educators of multilingual learners.
