VALUES & GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Equity:

• We prioritize access to Dual Language Bilingual Education (DLBE) programs for multilingual learners as the most effective educational experience, including students with disabilities and other historically marginalized groups.
• We believe DLBE programs are for all students regardless of race, language, culture, ability, and socio-economic status, with multilingual learners at the core.

Multilingualism:

• We view multilingualism as an asset and a resource.
• We challenge monolingual ideologies.
• We affirm and value students’ languages, cultures, and identities.

Advocacy & Sustainability:

• We work to change policy, guidance and practice at the state, district, and school levels for the benefit of DLBE.
• We advocate for sustained access and funding for DLBE programs and engage in collective efforts with policy makers.

Professional Excellence:

• We value educators as knowledgeable professionals.
• We build leadership capacity and professional learning about the quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment unique to DLBE.
• We are grounded in research, evidence, and strong practice.
• We hold DLBE programs accountable for quality, equity, and excellence.

Educator Support:

• We build and nurture educator networks to increase collaboration.
• We provide a variety of current and relevant resources and services, including personalized professional learning, for DLBE programs at all stages.

Family & Community Partnerships:

• We co-construct bridges among students, families, educators, and administrators to promote shared voices in decision making that centers families.
