    WHO: For DLBE program, school, and district leaders and administrators, such as principals, assistant principals, district leaders, and department heads.


    WHATParticipants will focus on deconstructing and finding solutions for agreed-upon common issues in the field.

    WHEN: Seven Virtual Meetings | Wednesdays, 9-10:30am (90 minutes) | October 1, 2025; October 15, 2025; November 12, 2025; December 10, 2025; January 7, 2026; February 4, 2026; March 11, 2026 (Subject to possible changes) 

    • The expectation is for participants to attend all sessions in the Network.
    • Registration closes Wednesday, September 24. (Registrations after this date will include a late registration fee.)

    SPECIAL EDUCATION NETWORK


    WHO: For DLBE special educators (e.g. support staff, teachers, and leaders who support bilingual special education students) and staff involved in the assessment process for bilingual students who are struggling or are receiving special education services (e.g. social workers, guidance counselors, coaches). 


    WHATParticipants will focus on deconstructing and finding solutions for agreed-upon common issues in the field. 

    Alignments: National Dual Language Education Teacher Preparation Standards (NDLETPS) and Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education.

    DLBE RESOURCE NETWORK 

    WHO: A free MABE member benefit to members in good standing (with no outstanding balances). Members can register at any time to receive access to all network resources. If you are not a member, join us to register. 

    WHAT: This year's Special Topic Network will focus on resources available to Dual Language Bilingual Education (DLBE) programs and educators as identified by MABE members. Learn about five topics: MABE's Member’s Resource Library, Holistic Bilingualism, Performance Assessments, Translanguaging & Language Objectives, and Backwards Design & Language Planning. There are two components to this Resource Network: 

    • INFOGRAPHIC: Gain visual resources to support staff and help you advocate for your program. The infographic will be sent to registrants prior to the virtual meeting. 
    • COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE: Join a virtual meeting to explore and practice the resource in-depth. This presentation will include an interactive space for questions and answers.

      How can performance assessments help assess students in my DLBE program?  
      Nikki Holland, MCIEA (MA Consortium for Innovative Education Assessment) Director of Performance Assessment 
      Explore a tool to assess the degree to which a performance task meets the six elements of quality (alignment, rigor, authenticity, equity, agency, and accessibility) while centering the pillars of DLBE. Walkthrough a sample performance assessment and discover further research and additional resources available through MCIEA.

      How have views of bilingualism changed over time?

      Explore how through time we have transitioned from a view of parallel monolingualism to holistic bilingualism. Using the infographic as a tool, learn about how linguistic independence vs interdependence affects our practice, as well as how to identify these underlying assumptions, improve our practice, and advocate for our programs.

    WHY: MABE's Dual Language Education Annual is an ideal opportunity for you to reach out to educators from across the region. We have over 4,550 members and contacts nationally and internationally, the majority of which are from Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. We serve a variety of educators, including school administrators, teachers, coaches, special educators, higher education professionals, and state education agency employees. Last year we had 450 registrants from 10 states, and offered more than 50 sessions.
